March Mega-Report
11 Apr 2026
Hello internet! Sorry about the big gap in reports — I got a bit busy and haven’t had as much time to keep this website updated. Nevertheless, I’ve been doing lots of fishing, with varying amounts of success. I thought I’d use this post to give a mega update on where I’ve been fishing and what I’ve been catching!
Some Quarry Skunks
I fished at Quarry Lakes a couple of times since my last report. Unfortunately, the trout fishing has been really tough going, for whatever reason — I blame the unseasonally warm temperatures, that seem to have triggered some algae blooms that muck up the water. I have been seeing a lot of carp and bass swim by, but I haven’t had much luck trying to entice them with my trout gear.

Saltwater Action
On the other hand, the rock fishing has been a lot more exciting! I took a couple of trips out to the Monterey Cliffs area, where I’ve been able to nab quite a few surfperch and rockfish (mostly a smattering of blues and black-and-yellows). Most action has been on squid, although I had a bit of luck with Slim SwimZ.

Wacky Bass at the Perc Ponds
On one warm March weekend I stopped by Los Gatos Creek County Park to get in some bass action. I circumnavigated Ponds #1, #2 and #3 with a wacky rig Zinkerz. I got a couple of follows in Pond #1 but the bass were a little shy. As a consolation prize, I caught two half pounders in Pond #2. I haven’t been back to these ponds for a couple years, so I’m glad I was able to nail a couple of fish!

Sandy Wool Trout
The DFG stocked Sandy Wool a couple times this past month. These days I find Sandy Wool a little crowded for my taste, but there was one particular wet weekend that I thought would be rainy enough to keep the crowds away (I was wrong). I fished a minijig for about half an hour but the water was a bit muddy I think for any hits, so I switched to two rods with a nightcrawler. I ended up catching three tiny, freshly planted trout and one larger trout that I think held over from an earlier plant earlier in the year because of its pale coloration. I got rained on a bit, but I had fun!
